Getting lost is not a waste of time

Creativity Forms Verses ~ Polymono

David  of The Skeptic’s Kaddish and Sangeetha of Mindfills began a fun poetry partnership in April. We celebrated writing together a 100 verse renga The HyakuinRipples.  And within days, decided we would absolutely love to continue our writing collaboration and celebrate what has grown to be a warm friendship with new poetry projects.

We decided to explore poetry forms. A to Z. Each week one of us chooses a poetry form the other responds to. We completed our first series Form verses creativity in June ’22. We knew we’re on to something. So we wrote the next set of poetry forms A to Z ~ Creativity Verses Form. Here, we added a little twist for version2.0, with a key word starting with the same letter.

And now, and in December ’22, we’re onto our fourth collaborative writing project ~ Creativity Forms Verses. To form verses, we turned to creativity, inventing new poetry forms, A through to Z.

For ‘P’, Sangeetha created the ‘Polymono’ form.

P: Polymono
Sangeetha’s Polymono
Spring paints a smile on each new day
Skies blush pink, birds fly out to play
Sun beams at plants; Oh how they sway
So pleased to keep the cold at bay
Shy blooms peep out and make new way
Safe, at peace, in earth's lap they lay
Stirred by sounds of my soul, I pray
Spring should stay and play, come what may.
David’s Polymono
Pained, I felt my wound flare
~ Part of me could not care.
'Please', pushed my soul, 'let's share...'
~ Pressed my hand 'pon the tear-
Penned words no heart could bear
~ Peace did not find me there.

Polymono?
  • All words in the Polymono are monosyllabic;
  • All lines have the same number of words;
    • The poem has the same number of lines as the number of words in each line;
  • All lines must:
    • Start with the same letter;
    • Share the same end-rhyme (i.e. monorhyme);
    • Contain a word starting with ‘P’
