She does not wear black
As red roses fill the earth
With only her love
Wrapped in a flag
Rifles up, shots in the air
In honour of truth
And sacrifice
Of her Braveheart
The band plays a tribute
Her ring remembers
The day she made her home,
Her country, her family
Wife to a soldier
Wearing pride on her shoulders
He still lives on
She does not wear black
Mindfills for Free Verse Revolution, a Literary and Arts Magazine. Issue VI LiJi encourages contributors to tell tales of courage and innocence, of temptation and sacrifice, and of power within and without.
This is beautiful and moving.

The women are forced to be brave – in the face of uncertainty, loneliness, and hopefully not widowhood. This poem holds a mirror to the heart! β€
