Partners in rhyme
David of The Skeptic’s Kaddish and I, Sangeetha began a fun poetry partnership in April 2021. We celebrated writing together a 100 verse renga The Hyakuin, Ripples.
We continued our writing collaboration with new poetry projects and decided to explore poetry forms. A to Z. Each week one of us chooses a poetry form the other responds to. We completed our first series Form verses creativity in June ’22. We knew we were on to something. So we wrote the next set of poetry forms A to Z ~ Creativity Verses Form. Here, we added a little twist for version2.0, with a key word starting with the same letter. And in December ’22, we were onto our fourth collaborative writing project Creativity forms verses (A-Z nonce poetry forms) ~ To form verses, we turned to creativity, inventing new poetry forms, A through to Z.
David then came upon the Tapestry poem~ a form invented by a pair of poets from Israel and India (just like us!) and we wrote two Tapestries.
And then we couldn’t not do another series. So here we are with our Verses Creativity Forms ~ our very own invented forms!
For ‘A’, Sangeetha created the ‘Anoncement’ form.
A: Anoncement
Sangeetha’s Anoncement
Abue is the colour of poetry;
Bright as blue diamonds,
Scarlet syllables sync in vibrant verse,
Violet eyes seek out secrets in runes
Mystery can only hope to find;
Words who wish to be in vogue,
Splash the runway of rhyme
With sequins of abue sentiments
Filling quills of thought
You let loose to roam my mind.
David’s Anoncement
nguj is disquieting that discomfort
which my knots stomach
wrings of dry me zest
words jamming my up surging throat
squeeze my through themselves pores
glazing in of sheen a me anxiety
even shut my as processes thought down
leaving mind my emptied
of but overwhelming most the all emotions
that's nguj
Anoncement?
- First word of the first line is a made-up 4 letter word;
- Second line has 4 words;
- Every subsequent line has as many words as the number of letters in the first word of the previous line;
- There is no limit on the number of lines.

I’m really impressed with this form – it’s quite unlike any other that we’ve come up with!
